The Short Version

The Dam Plumber repairs and replaces garbage disposals in Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and northwest Arizona. A jammed disposal can often be freed up, and a disposal leaking from its own body is done. We'll tell you which one you've got and give you the price before we start.

Garbage Disposal Repair: Jammed, Humming or Leaking

A lot of disposal calls aren't a dead disposal. Something hard got in there, the blades are stuck, and the motor hums or trips its reset. We free it up, check it runs right, and you're back in business.

Please don't reach in there with your hand. Turn it off at the switch and leave it for us.

Humming but not spinning

The motor is getting power but the plate is stuck. Usually that's a jam we can clear. If it keeps happening, the motor may be on its way out.

Leaking under the sink

Where it leaks tells you a lot. A leak at the sink flange or the drain connection is a repair. A leak from the bottom of the disposal itself means the inside seals are gone, and it's time for a new one.

What not to put down it

Grease, bones, fruit pits, eggshells, coffee grounds and stringy peels like celery or onion skins are what we pull out of jammed disposals and clogged kitchen lines. Run cold water while it's grinding, and keep running it for a bit after. That alone saves a lot of calls.

Garbage Disposal Installation and Replacement

When the disposal is done, we'll get a new one in. You can pick the unit, or we'll give you a couple of options and tell you what we'd put in at our house. You pick.

If you're putting in a new sink, we can do the disposal and the faucet and sink in the same visit.

  • Old disposal pulled and replaced
  • New sink flange and gaskets so it seals right
  • Drain and dishwasher connections hooked up
  • Run and leak-checked before we leave

When It's the Drain, Not the Garbage Disposal

Sometimes the disposal is fine and the kitchen drain line past it is clogged. Grease and food build up in that line over the years. If the sink backs up even with the disposal running, that's usually what's going on.

That's a drain cleaning job. We cable the line to clear it. If the kitchen line keeps coming back full of grease, hydro jetting scours the pipe walls instead of just punching a hole through the clog. We'll tell you if it needs that or not.

How a Garbage Disposal Call Works With Us

You call, we come out, and we look at it. We tell you what's wrong in plain English, and whether it's a repair or a new unit.

Then you get the price up front. If it turns out harder than it looked, the price is still the price. We finish, you run it and check the sink, and we're done. Nobody here is paid on commission, so we're not going to walk your kitchen looking for other stuff to sell.

Veterans get 15% off, and Boulder City senior center members get a discount too. See our coupons page.

Common Questions

Garbage Disposals FAQs

What people ask us most about garbage disposals.

Should I repair or replace my garbage disposal?

If it's jammed or leaking at a connection, repair it. If it's leaking from the body of the unit or the motor is burned out, replace it. We'll tell you which one it is.

My disposal hums but won't turn. What's wrong?

Something is jamming the plate. Turn it off at the switch and don't put your hand in it. We can usually free it up.

Will you install a disposal I already bought?

Yes. If you've got the unit, we'll put it in and check the drain and dishwasher connections while we're there.

Will the price change once you start?

No. You get an upfront price before we start, and if the job goes south on us, it's still the same price.

Do you warranty the work?

Yes. Workmanship is warrantied for one year in Nevada and two years in Arizona, per each state's rules.
