The Short Version

The Dam Plumber cleans storm drains and catch basins for businesses and property owners in Las Vegas, Henderson, Boulder City and northwest Arizona. We pull the debris out of the basin, jet the line clean with our truck-mounted jetter, and tell you if anything's broken. You get the price up front.

Why Storm Drain Cleaning Matters in the Desert

It doesn't rain much out here, but when it does, it comes down hard and fast. A catch basin that's been collecting sand, leaves, cups and trash for months doesn't have room for that water. It backs up into the parking lot, around the building, or through the door.

The dry stretch is exactly why storm drains get forgotten. Nobody thinks about the catch basin until the lot is flooded. Cleaning it before the storms show up is a lot cheaper than dealing with the water after.

Water that can't get into the storm drain goes somewhere else. It sits in low spots in the lot, runs toward doorways, and works its way under whatever it can. A clean basin and a clear line give it a place to go.

How We Handle Storm Drain and Catch Basin Cleaning

First we pull the debris out of the basin itself. Then we go after the line that runs out of it. Sand and silt settle in those pipes, and roots can find their way in too.

For the line, we use the hydro jetter on our truck. High-pressure water scours the sand, grease and roots off the pipe walls and flushes them out. If the line still isn't moving right, a camera inspection shows us why.

When we're done, we run water through it so you can see it drain. You get the price up front, and if the job turns out harder than it looked, it's still the same price.

  • Storm lines jetted clear
  • Camera inspection when the line needs a closer look

Storm Drain Cleaning for Businesses and Commercial Properties

Most of the storm drains we see are in parking lots and around commercial buildings. We came out of commercial plumbing before we started The Dam Plumber, so working around a business that has to stay open is nothing new. We'll work with you on timing so we're not in the way.

If you manage a property, we'll tell you what we found and what shape the basin and line are in, in plain English. No padding the bill, no list of things you don't need. Nobody here works on commission.

Need work inside the building too? See our commercial plumbing page.

We're licensed in Nevada (C-1 #0091779, bid limit $207,000) and in Arizona (ROC #365536), and our workmanship is warrantied for one year in Nevada and two years in Arizona.

When a Storm Drain Needs More Than Cleaning

Sometimes the reason a storm drain keeps backing up isn't the debris. It's a cracked or broken pipe, or a section that's collapsed. Cleaning won't fix that, and we'll tell you so instead of coming back to clean it again every few months.

Roots are another one. They find a crack or a loose joint in the storm line, grow in, and catch everything that washes down. We can cut them out, but if the pipe is broken where they got in, they'll come back until that section is replaced.

When the pipe is broken, we dig down to it, cut out the bad section and put in new pipe. We don't do pipe lining. You get the options and the price up front, same as any job. For the details on that kind of work, see drain repairs.

If a storm is on top of you and water is heading for the building, call us. We run 24/7 emergency service.

Common Questions

Storm Drain Cleaning FAQs

Straight answers to what people ask us most about storm drain cleaning.

How often should catch basins be cleaned?

It depends on how much sand, leaves and trash end up in them. A lot next to landscaping or a busy road fills faster. We'll tell you what we find and how full it was, so you can plan from there.

Do you clean the line, or just the basin?

Both. We clean out the basin and jet the line that runs out of it with our truck-mounted hydro jetter.

What if the storm drain pipe is broken?

Then cleaning won't fix it, and we'll tell you. We dig down to the pipe, cut out the bad section and put in new pipe.

How much does storm drain cleaning cost?

It depends on how many basins, how full they are and how long the lines run. You get the price up front, and if the job gets harder, it's still the same price.

Do you warranty the work?

Yes. Workmanship is warrantied for one year in Nevada and two years in Arizona, per each state's rules.
