The Short Version
The Dam Plumber repairs and replaces gas and electric water heaters across Boulder City, Henderson, Las Vegas and northwest Arizona. We look at your unit, tell you straight whether a repair makes sense or it's time for a new one, and give you the price before we start. That price doesn't change if the job gets harder. Want to go tankless? See our tankless water heater page.
Water Heater Repair: Fix It When Fixing Makes Sense
A lot of water heater calls don't need a new water heater. A bad thermocouple, a gas valve acting up, a burned-out element or a leaking relief valve are all repairs, and we'll treat them that way.
We're not going to walk in and tell you that you need a new tank just because we sell tanks. Nobody here is paid on commission. Everybody's hourly, so there's no reason for us to push anything.
Gas water heaters
Pilot won't light, burner won't stay on, or you smell gas near the unit. We work on the gas side too, so the whole appliance gets handled by one plumber. If you smell gas, get out of the house and call us or the gas company first.
Electric water heaters
Lukewarm water or hot water that runs out fast usually points to an element or a thermostat. Those are parts, not a whole new heater.

Water Heater Replacement When It's Time
When the tank itself is leaking, it's done. There's no patching a rusted-through tank. At that point we'll get a new one in.
We give you options. Same size and type as what you've got, a bigger tank if the house has outgrown it, or a switch to tankless. We'll tell you what we'd put in if it was our house, and you pick.
- Gas and electric tank water heaters
- Garage, closet and utility-room installs
- Gas line work at the heater handled in-house

Commercial Water Heaters and Hot Water Systems
We came out of commercial plumbing before we started The Dam Plumber, so rooftop units, recirculation pumps and bigger commercial hot water systems aren't new to us. We've swapped out rusted rooftop heaters on commercial buildings and replaced the circulator pumps that keep hot water moving through them.
If your building also runs on a boiler, see our boiler service page.

How a Water Heater Call Works With Us
You call, and during business hours you'll usually talk to one of us. We come out, look at the heater, and tell you what's wrong in plain English.
Then you get the price up front. If we go to do the job and it turns out harder than it looked, the price is still the price. We fix it, you check that you've got hot water, and we're on to the next one.
No hot water at 2 a.m. with a tank leaking into the garage? We run 24/7 emergency service. We give you the after-hours rate before we head out, and we'll tell you that before we roll.

Common Questions
Water Heaters FAQs
Straight answers to what people ask us most about water heaters.
Should I repair or replace my water heater?
If the tank itself is leaking, replace it. If it's a part like a thermocouple, element, thermostat or relief valve, it's usually a repair. We'll tell you which one it is and what we'd do if it was our house.
Do you work on both gas and electric water heaters?
Yes. We repair and replace both, and since we also do gas line work, the gas side of the install is handled by us too.
Will the price change once you start?
No. You get an upfront price before we start, and if the job goes south on us, it's still the same price.
Can you come out after hours if my water heater is leaking?
Yes. We answer the phone 24/7. We give you the after-hours rate before we head out, and we aim to be there within the hour.
Do you warranty the work?
Yes. Workmanship is warrantied for one year in Nevada and two years in Arizona, per each state's rules.
